CloudTec | Helion | Speedboard — The Complete Guide

By OD's Designer Clothing | Updated April 2026 | 8 min read

On Running doesn't just make running shoes — they engineer movement systems. Founded in Zurich in 2010, every pair contains patented technology you won't find anywhere else. As authorised UK stockists, we handle these shoes daily. This guide breaks down exactly what's inside them and why it matters.

Missiongrip is On's specialised rubber compound for trail and training shoes. Originally developed and tested by athletes in the Swiss Alps, it maximises friction on wet, rocky, and muddy surfaces.

Cloudsoma — Trail

Missiongrip + CloudTec Connect for short-distance trail running. Sensory connection to terrain. £170.

Cloudpulse 2 — Training

Missiongrip + CloudTec for HIIT and circuits. Dynamic grip during explosive movements. £150.

6 | On Running Apparel Technologies: DryTec, GuardTec & SenseTec

On's technology doesn't stop at footwear. Three fabric technologies power their running and training apparel.

DryTec

Moisture-wicking, quick-drying fabric. Tiny spaces between yarn strands move sweat from skin to surface for faster evaporation. Found in Performance Bra (£70), Performance Tights (£65).

GuardTec

Wind- and waterproof three-layer membrane. PFA-free water-repellent finish with taped seams. Breathable but fully waterproof. Found in Ultra Jacket (£250), Ultra Pants (£170).

SenseTec

Soft, smooth, stretch fabric for activewear. Adapts to body shape with precise stretch — no resistance during movement. Found in Studio Leggings (£75–105).

CleanCloud

Materials made from captured carbon emissions. Pioneered an entirely new supply chain. Pace collection uses 20% recycled carbon emissions in CleanCloud polyester.

8 | Frequently Asked Questions

What is CloudTec and how does it work?

CloudTec is On Running's patented cushioning system. Hollow pods on the outsole compress on impact to absorb shock, then lock together on take-off to provide a firm, propulsive push forward. The pods compress in multiple directions, adapting to your individual foot strike.

What is the difference between CloudTec and CloudTec Phase?

Standard CloudTec pods compress independently. CloudTec Phase pods are angled so they compress sequentially from heel to toe — like dominoes — creating a smooth rolling transition. Phase is optimised for walking and all-day comfort, while standard CloudTec is tuned for running performance.

Are On Running shoes good for wide feet?

On Running shoes are standard width only — they don't offer wide or extra-wide options. Road and lifestyle models accommodate most foot widths at true to size. Trail models run slightly narrow in the midfoot. If you have particularly wide feet, we recommend trying in-store at OD's before purchasing.

Can you machine wash On Running shoes?

No. Machine washing damages materials and can void the manufacturer's warranty. Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild detergent. LightSpray shoes require extra care — brush off dry dirt only, or hand wash with warm water. Never tumble dry.

How long do On Running shoes last?

Road running shoes typically last 600–800km depending on running style and surface. Trail shoes last 500–700km due to harsher terrain. Lifestyle shoes last 12–18 months with regular wear. Visible compression of CloudTec pods or loss of cushioning responsiveness are signs it's time to replace.

Is OD's an authorised On Running stockist?

Yes. OD's Designer Clothing is an authorised UK stockist of On Running. Every pair purchased from us is 100% authentic with full manufacturer warranty, sourced directly from official distribution.
