CenterPath Technology Explained

Saucony's modern stability system that guides the stride using geometry rather than rigid posting

OD's Designer Clothing - St Helens - Updated June 2026

In brief: CenterPath is Saucony's stability system, using asymmetric midsole geometry, a wider platform and high sidewalls to cradle the foot. It places extra cushioning on the medial side to guide stride mechanics and reduce excessive pronation. Replacing Saucony's older GuideRail approach, it guides the foot rather than restricting it, delivering natural-feeling support in models like the Guide and Hurricane.

What is CenterPath?

CenterPath is Saucony's stability system, designed to keep the foot tracking well without the intrusive feel of older support shoes. It works through asymmetric midsole geometry, a wider platform and high sidewalls that cradle the foot from the sides. The construction places additional cushioning on the medial, or inner, side of the shoe to gently guide stride mechanics and reduce excessive pronation, the inward roll of the foot that can throw off alignment. Importantly, CenterPath is a Saucony technology, not a Salomon one. It represents Saucony's modern thinking on stability: shaping the platform so the foot is naturally encouraged into a better position, rather than being forced there by hard blocks of dense foam.

How does it work?

The clever part of CenterPath is that it uses shape rather than stiffness to do its job. High sidewalls rise up around the foot to keep it centred on the platform, while the wider base adds a stable, planted feel underfoot. The asymmetric geometry and extra medial cushioning steer the stride subtly, offering support where it is biomechanically useful and freedom where it is not. Because the guidance comes from how the midsole is sculpted, the shoe avoids the rigid, corrective sensation of traditional stability footwear. The foot is cradled and guided through each step, which many runners find feels far more natural than being held in place by a firm post.

How is it different from old-style stability?

Traditional stability shoes relied on dense EVA posting, rigid blocks of firmer foam set into the midsole to physically resist pronation. The trouble was that these posts often felt intrusive and could make a shoe ride harshly or unevenly. CenterPath takes a different route, using asymmetric geometry and high sidewalls to guide the foot without that rigid sensation. The result is stability that feels natural: support is delivered where it is biomechanically beneficial and withheld where it is not needed. For runners who have been put off by the stiff, blocky feel of older support shoes, this geometry-led approach is a more comfortable way to get the guidance they need.

What replaced what?

CenterPath replaces Saucony's older GuideRail system as the brand's stability approach. Where GuideRail used structures to keep the foot in line, CenterPath shifts the emphasis towards guiding rather than restricting natural foot movement. It reflects a wider trend in running footwear away from heavy correction and towards subtle, supportive guidance that lets the foot move more freely. For long-time Saucony fans, it is worth knowing that the move from GuideRail to CenterPath changes the feel of the brand's stability shoes, generally towards a smoother, less intrusive ride that still keeps overpronation in check.

Which shoes feature it?

At OD's, CenterPath stability features in Saucony's Guide and Hurricane models, including the Guide 18 and the Hurricane 24 and 25. The Guide is Saucony's lighter, everyday stability trainer, while the Hurricane offers more cushioning for longer runs, and both use CenterPath to keep the stride on track. These shoes suit runners who overpronate or simply want a little extra guidance without sacrificing comfort. If you have been told you need a stability shoe but disliked how rigid older models felt, CenterPath in the Guide or Hurricane is well worth trying.
