What's the difference between GORE-TEX® and DryVent™ on North Face jackets?

GORE-TEX® uses an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) membrane — the benchmark for waterproofing and breathability. DryVent™ is The North Face's own membrane system, available in 2L, 2.5L and 3L constructions. Both are fully seam-sealed. GORE-TEX® sits at the premium end; DryVent™ delivers reliable performance at a lower price point. Either is fully waterproof for UK conditions.

Which insulation should I choose — down or synthetic?

RDS-certified down (550–800 fill power) is the warmest for its weight and compresses smallest — ideal for dry cold. ThermoBall™ ECO and Heatseeker™ ECO synthetic fills retain warmth even when damp, dry faster, and are made from recycled content. If you're in wet UK weather or high-output activities where you might sweat, synthetic is the safer call.

How does North Face sizing work — do the jackets come up large?

North Face shells are cut slightly roomier than a typical slim-fit jacket specifically to accommodate midlayers. If you're wearing over a thick fleece, your usual size works. For a cleaner silhouette with just a base layer underneath, some customers size down one. The urban heritage styles — the boxy retro silhouettes — run true to their intentionally relaxed fit.

Does OD's carry the full North Face range or just selected lines?
