Pockets, cuffs, drawcords and trims that define a sweat

OD's Designer Clothing · Knowledge Hubs

The small parts of a sweat decide how it wears and lasts. This hub explains the pockets, cuffs, drawcords and trims across our range, so a product name tells you the features before you look closely. Browse men's hoodies and sweatshirts (/collections/mens-sweatshirts-jumpers-hoodies).

Pockets

Ribbing and cuffs

Ribbed Cuffs

Elasticated knit cuffs that grip the wrist.

Ribbed Hem

A knit waistband that holds the sweat in place.

What defines it

A ribbed hem is the stretchy knit band at the bottom of a sweat that grips the waist, stops it riding up and keeps the shape.

Who it suits

It suits a snug, classic sweat finish.

Raw or Straight Hem

An unribbed hem for a looser drape.

What defines it

A raw or straight hem finishes without ribbing so the sweat hangs looser and longer, common on oversized and modern cuts.

Who it suits

It suits relaxed and streetwear styles.

Cords and trims

Drawcords & Tips

The hood cords and their finished ends.

What defines it

Drawcords run through the hood to cinch it, finished with metal, plastic or knotted tips that stop fraying and add a quality touch.

Who it suits

It suits adjustable hoods and a premium detail.

A stitched brand mark instead of a print.

What defines it

An embroidered logo is stitched into the fabric rather than printed, giving a durable, textured brand mark that resists washing.

Who it suits

It suits a subtle, premium branded finish.

Frequently asked questions

What is a kangaroo pocket?

A kangaroo pocket is the single large front pouch on a pullover hoodie, stitched across the belly and open at both sides so you can warm your hands or stash small items. Zip hoodies use two split pockets instead, one either side of the zip, since a single pouch cannot cross the opening.

Why do hoodies have ribbed cuffs and hems?

Ribbing is a stretchy knit that grips the wrist and waist. It keeps the sleeves and body in place, stops warmth escaping and helps the sweat hold its shape after washing. Some modern and oversized styles skip ribbing for a looser, longer drape, but classic sweats rely on it for both fit and durability.

Is an embroidered logo better than a print?

Embroidery is stitched into the fabric, so it is more durable and textured than a print and tends to survive washing better without cracking or fading. A print can show finer detail and colour and sits flat, which some designs need. Neither is strictly better; embroidery usually reads as the more premium finish on a plain sweat.
