Saucony Ride vs Triumph: Which Running Shoe Is Right for You?

Saucony Ride vs Triumph: Which Running Shoe Is Right for You?

The Saucony Ride 18 and Saucony Triumph 23 are two of the most popular daily training shoes in the Saucony range, but they serve different purposes. As an authorised Saucony stockist, we have fitted hundreds of customers in both models and can break down exactly where each shoe excels.

The Key Difference

The Ride 18 is Saucony's versatile all-rounder — lighter, more responsive, and built for runners who want one shoe that handles everything from easy jogs to tempo sessions. The Triumph 23 is the premium cushioned option — softer, more plush, and designed for runners who prioritise comfort on long runs and high-mileage training weeks.

Cushioning

Both shoes use Saucony's PWRRUN foam, but the Triumph 23 uses the upgraded PWRRUN+ compound with a thicker midsole stack. The result is noticeably softer landings in the Triumph, especially on runs beyond 10 miles. The Ride 18 uses standard PWRRUN foam — still well-cushioned but firmer and more responsive underfoot. Runners who prefer to feel the road tend to favour the Ride, while those who want maximum impact protection lean towards the Triumph.

Weight

The Ride 18 is typically 20-30g lighter per shoe than the Triumph 23 in equivalent sizes. This makes it the better choice for runners who value a lighter, faster-feeling shoe for varied training. The Triumph 23 trades that weight for additional cushioning material and a more substantial upper.

Fit and Upper

Both shoes use Saucony's FormFit technology, which moulds to your foot shape over time. The Triumph 23 features a more padded collar and tongue, giving it a more luxurious fit. The Ride 18 has a slightly more streamlined upper that sits closer to the foot. Both are available in standard and wide widths — call us on 01744 730985 to check availability for specific sizes.

Durability

The Triumph 23's thicker midsole foam gives it a slight edge in longevity, typically lasting 500-600 miles before the cushioning breaks down noticeably. The Ride 18 is durable too at 400-500 miles, but its firmer foam can feel less cushioned sooner in its lifespan.

Price

The Triumph 23 sits at a higher price point than the Ride 18, reflecting its premium cushioning and materials. For runners on a tighter budget, the Ride 18 delivers excellent value while still providing Saucony's core technologies. Check current pricing in our men's and women's Saucony collections.
